Myrtle Beach Golf FAQ
Payment Information
How and when do I pay for my golf package?
If you book your package well in advance, we ask that each person pay a deposit of $75.00 within two weeks from the time the package is booked. To allow for enough time to get the entire package to you (scorecards, map, brochures, vouchers etc.) please pay the balance at least three weeks prior to your arrival date. You may pay by personal check, money order, certified check, Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover. For our Canadian golfers we ask that everything be paid at least 4 weeks out. On a booking with short notice, the deposit or balance may have to be paid at the time of the booking.
I want to stay at a resort, hotel or condo that I see Coastal Golfaway offers, but it's not on a seasonal special. What will the price be?
Just call us or email us with your particular request and we'll provide an accurate price quote for that particular resort, hotel or condo. Most of our lodging choices can be found on a seasonal special though.
Price-wise, am I better off going through Coastal Golfaway, or trying to contact all the golf courses and my lodging choice myself?
More than likely you will save money by booking your golf vacation through Coastal Golfaway. It's almost a guarantee. Along with that, you let us do all the work that it requires to put together a great golf package, saving you time and work in the process. We do this every day and there's a reason the majority of our customers become repeat customers: We provide a value-added service, to you, the golfer. We hope you choose to let us arrange a Myrtle Beach golf package for you in the near future.
Refunds
What if one of my group members can't come at the last minute?
Every case is different, but we'll show you a common situation. Assume a golf trip is booked for 8 golfers who are staying in a condo in April (4 nights and playing 4 rounds, for example). The day before the trip starts a golfer has a family emergency and can't make the trip and it's too late to get a replacement golfer. First of all, contact us and let us know only 7 people will be playing. We will ask you to reflect the change in your group's number to 7 on your course voucher. We will then notify all the courses. If the course charges us for 8 people we can't provide a refund for that round of golf, but if they only bill us for 7, we'll gladly give a refund. The amount of notice that we give to the courses is normally the determining factor. We get the bills from each course in the early part of the month after the golf is played. Refunds are then sent out a week or so after the bills are all received --approximately 30 days after your trip.
What happens if it rains during my Myrtle Beach golf trip?
The last thing anyone would want on a golf trip is rainy weather, but it can happen!! Here is how rainouts are handled:
Once a golf package begins, no refunds may be made for any portion except for COURSE CLOSURES. All Myrtle Beach area golf courses have a no-show policy throughout the year, meaning that they do not give refunds unless the golf course is closed for play. The courses make these decisions and many offer only a Rain Check as compensation. In order to make advance tee-times we must abide by the individual course policy on Rain Checks. Coastal Golfaway will not be able to issue a refund unless you have the golf course voucher "signed off" by the golf course Professional indicating they will not bill Coastal Golfaway for the round.
Upon receiving your "signed off" voucher, Coastal Golfaway will A: refund your golf fees less a $5.00 per person administration fee, or B: issue you a full credit to be used towards any course on your next Coastal Golfaway trip. All refunds or credits will be issued after verification of golf course billing and by the 30th of the month following your trip. NO CHANGES ARE TO BE MADE TO ANY VOUCHER WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL BY COASTAL GOLFAWAY.
Surcharges
What is the difference between a no surcharge course and a surcharge course?
The main difference is price. If you play a no surcharge course that means you don't have to pay any extra money to play it, unlike a surcharge course, where the surcharge could be anywhere from $5 extra to $60 extra depending on the course. There are a few exceptions where the surcharge may be higher. If that's the case, you know it's really a premium course. An example would be the Barefoot Resort or TPC Myrtle Beach.
If a course is a no surcharge course, does that mean that it's not very good?
Not at all. In fact some of the no surcharge courses are better than some of the surcharge courses. The main difference is price. On a typical golf vacation lasting 4 days, most of our golfers choose a combination of no surcharge courses and surcharge courses. Then again, some courses are so nice that they will always be a surcharge course, and more than likely, well worth the extra charge.
Carts
Are carts required?
Carts are required on all package play.
Can I walk on the course?
You can do a lot of walking if you find a partner who is always willing to drive the golf cart. Just put your golf bag on the golf cart (required), hit a good drive, then proceed down the fairway swiftly and be ready to hit when it's your turn to play.
MISCELLANEOUS
Our spouses don't play golf. How much would it cost for them to join us for our golf trip?
Spouses will not be charged for any golf if they don't play; therefore, we will gladly arrange a price for any non-golfer based on lodging only, as long as there are some golfers in the group. Non-golfers will be charged as the golfer, if they ride along at the golf course.
What is the best way to arrange a Myrtle Beach golf trip if I am coming by myself?
The golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area will not allow us to book a guaranteed tee time for a single golfer. You are welcome to come to the Carolina coast. Once you get into the area call a course you would like to play. The pro shop should be able to tell you a time to show up to get paired up with someone else. Simply put, we would like to help you out, but if you're by yourself there's no real need to contact us. Even if you're bringing a non-playing spouse, this does not change the situation.
I want to stay somewhere that's extremely close to all the nightlife that Myrtle Beach has to offer. Where would that be?
If you're going to stay in a Myrtle Beach condo, the choices that would be the closest to Myrtle Beach nightlife would be the River Oaks condos, Myrtlewood condos or Arrowhead condos. If you're staying in a hotel it would either be the Ocean Reef or Long Bay Resort.
I want to stay somewhere in the Myrtle Beach / Brunswick area that's convenient to the golf courses I'm playing.
That's hard to answer unless you know where you're playing, but if you look at our Myrtle Beach lodging choices you'll see a brief description of each accommodation. Next to that will be a brief listing of some golf courses that would be be convenient to play. Feel free to also check out our detailed Myrtle Beach golf course and accommodation map. It displays every one of our lodging choices and golf courses in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area.
What is the difference between Myrtle Beach golf and Wilmington golf?
The biggest difference is that Myrtle Beach has more golf courses to choose from. Then again, how many golf courses can you play in 4 or 5 days? You will be able to fill your days playing excellent golf courses no matter if you choose Wilmington or Myrtle Beach. Wilmington is a city that happens to have a lot of quality golf choices. Myrtle Beach is more of a destination vacation spot where golf, resorts, hotels and condos are more prominent, again with lots of quality golf choices. Oceanfront accommodations are available in both cases.
What is the geographic center of the Grand Strand Myrtle Beach area as far as golf is concerned?
The Myrtle Beach Grand Strand area stretches from Georgetown, South Carolina to Southport, North Carolina. If you stay in North Myrtle Beach you're probably as close to the center of the golf hub as you could get. About half of the Grand Strand area courses are north of North Myrtle Beach with half south of North Myrtle Beach.
Can I play a Wilmington golf course on my way to Myrtle Beach? What if I am staying in Wilmington and would like to play a round in North Myrtle Beach or vice - versa?
Due to the fact a lot of our golfers drive to Myrtle Beach via Interstate 40, we usually end up with several groups playing River Landing (a very nice Clyde Johnston golf course that's located just a half mile off of Interstate 40, 30 minutes north of Wilmington). A golf group might play River Landing around noon, leave the course shortly after 4pm and eat dinner in Myrtle Beach around 6pm. Vice versa, if you're on a Wilmington golf package and want to drive down to the Calabash / North Myrtle Beach area, that can be arranged as well.
Can I get a special deal if I bring a large group?
Sure! For every twenty golfers, one gets to come for free. This means that if you get 19 friends to come with you, you can come for free on every night and day that you have 20 golfers. With a group of 40, it's two free for every night and day that you have 40.
Can I book a Myrtle Beach golf package through Coastal Golfaway online without ever contacting Coastal Golfaway via phone or email?
This is a practice we don't recommend. At Coastal Golfaway we provide a service. Part of that service is the one-on-one communication with the customer in order to insure that everything is set up correctly prior to leaving home for the golf vacation.
Can I overlap a golf outing? In other words, your winter special ends February 28th with the spring special starting March 1st. Can I arrive on February 26th and leave on March 4th or something similar?
Of course you can. We'll customize the price for your golf group just like we would if you wanted to come and stay at one of our lodging choices that is not listed on a current special promotion. In the example above, we would figure 3 nights on the winter special and 3 nights on the spring special.
I've looked at your Spring Special and Fall Special. I see 3 nights 4 rounds listed, but we want to stay 4 nights and only play 3 rounds. Is that possible?
Sure it's possible. If that's what you want just let us know and we'll customize a price for you that will fit your needs. It can be 4 nights 3 rounds or possibly 4 nights 6 rounds. The possibilities are endless, which is why we only list the most commonly requested options.
What is the difference between staying at a Myrtle Beach hotel and staying at a condo on a golf package?
Condos are great if you want a little extra room. Most of our Myrtle Beach condos typically have 2 bedrooms with 2 beds in each room, a full kitchen, a living room area and a patio / porch. Some condos even have extra amenities. If you stay at a condo you're not going to come back from a round of golf and have your bed made up and the towels picked up from the floor like a hotel though. Daily maid service can be available for an additional cost. Whether you stay at a hotel or a condo you don't have to bring sheets, linens, towels, etc. They are always provided.
Do the prices on your Carolina golf packages include breakfast?
Breakfast is included in almost every Coastal Golfaway golf package if you are staying at a Myrtle Beach hotel or hotel in Wilmington. If you don't want breakfast, there won't be any reduction of price. Breakfast is not included in any Coastal Golfaway golf package if you are staying in a condo, with some exceptions such as some of our oceanfront resorts in Myrtle Beach.
I've never been to the Carolinas before and don't know which golf courses to play. How do I know which courses will be better suited for my group?
Our web site should be able to give you a good idea of what you need to know. After viewing it, don't hesitate to call us toll free at 1-800-368-0045 and tell a Coastal Golfaway Golf Director that you need help selecting your golf courses. We'll try to make sure you play courses that will be convenient, within your selected budget, and to your liking. In other words, if you don't want to play a tight course with lots of water just tell us. We'll then try to make sure you play a course with wide fairways and fewer hazards. With our extensive local knowledge about Myrtle Beach golf, it's just that simple!
I want to request a free golf package quote, but do I really have to fill out all the form fields?
In order to provide you with an accurate golf vacation quote we need as much information about your proposed golf outing as possible. If you don't know when you want to come, nor how many days you want to play, just look at our seasonal specials and you'll get a pretty good idea of your options. Once your plans become a little more clear, please feel free to contact us. We'd love to hear from you.
TRANSPORTATION
How long will it take me to drive to these areas?
Driving time from Richmond, Virginia to Wilmington, North Carolina is approximately 4 hours. Washington, DC to Wilmington is approximately 6 hours.
Driving time from Richmond, Virginia to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is approximately 4 and a half hours. Washington, DC to Myrtle Beach is approximately 6 and a half hours.
Will Coastal Golfaway arrange my air travel for me?
We do what we do best. This involves arranging the lodging and golf for our golfers. Your best bet if you know you want to fly into the Carolinas is to contact your travel agent for airfare only or just call the airlines directly to get a plane ticket. We advise that you get the air schedule straightened out first prior to making the golf arrangements
If I'm flying into the Carolinas, will I need a car to get around to all the courses?
Without a doubt, a rental car is a great idea. There just aren't a whole lot of taxis in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach.
DRESS CODE
Do the courses have dress codes?
Many of our golf courses do have dress codes. Our suggestion is never wear jeans on your golf trip. Many golf courses don't allow their golfers to play in jeans. As a result you may have to end up buying pants from the pro shop prior to your tee time, or you can just go home upset that you arrived at the course without the proper golf attire.
Are shorts permitted?
All of our courses permit shorts. You may want to keep the shorts at home in January though. Please, no cut off shorts or jean shorts.
What about soft spikes? Are they required?
The vast majority of the courses have a no metal spike policy. It's best to bring golf shoes with soft spikes. Bring an extra pair of shoes in case you happen to run into a little rain.
WEATHER
What type of weather should we expect on the Carolina coast?
The average high in February is 57 degrees. Make sure you bring a sweater or a jacket in case you happen to come on one of our colder days.
The average high in April and October is 74 degrees. Sounds like a perfect time to come on a golf trip! Make sure you pack some shorts.
The average high in July is 88 degrees. We would advise getting an early tee time in order to get some golf in before the temperature gets too high.
Is the weather the same in Myrtle Beach and Wilmington?
For the most part there is no noticeable difference in the weather.
REPLAYS
Can I get a replay?
There are (1) Guaranteed replays and (2) Replays based on availability.
First we'll address replays based on availability. After your initial 18 holes (normally a morning round) a lot of golfers decide to play more golf if the weather is nice and everyone is having a good time. If this is what you want to do just go into pro shop and ask the pro if you can go out and play some more golf. If there is availability they'll gladly let your group go out if you pay the appropriate replay at the golf shop prior to your replay round. You'll find that a lot of courses will only charge you a cart fee for a replay round. That's anywhere from $ 15 to $ 20. Some of the premier courses may charge you a little more than that for a replay.
Let's now address the guaranteed replay situation. A guaranteed replay at the same course or a different course in the afternoon can be booked through us, but it will be considered as an extra round of golf. Thus, the golf package can go from a 3 night 3 round package to a 3 night 4 round package. Again, this is only on guaranteed replays where you have an actual tee time in the afternoon. Guaranteed tee times are recommended with groups of eight or more.
