In the 19th century, a company started to develop the earliest settlement of the area known today asMyrtle Beach. Initially called “New Town,” it had a railroad to transport timber inland from the coast. On weekends, the workers of the railroad would ride the train down to the coast to become the first seaboard tourists. The end of the line was that “New Town”. A pioneer who envisioned New Town developing into a major tourist destination was Franklin Borroughs. He wanted the area to rivalFlorida. He died, but his dream was carried out by his sons, who built the first Seaside Inn. Around 1900, a contest was held to give a better name to the area, and Borrough’s wife thought to name the area after the locally prominent shrub, the Southern Wax Myrtle. New Town changed its name toMyrtle Beach, and eventually the town grew into the major tourist attraction it is today.
Today,Myrtle Beachis a major vacation destination area, attracting about 14 million tourists. A major staple to these resorts are the golf courses. Golf is a major attraction forMyrtle Beachbecause there are over 100 golf and/ or golf resort complexes. This makesMyrtle Beachthe so called “Golf Capital of the World.” A few of the well-known resorts include: Arcadian Shores Golf Club, Barefoot Resort and Golf Club, Grande Dunes Golf Resort, the Legends, and Man O’War.
All of these courses, some located in resorts right on the ocean, have attracted a whole industry of golf vacation advisors. One of the best golf vacation planners available is Coastal Golfaway. Their service is built around the fact that they know the local market very well. They are not tied to any one course or accommodation. Depending on the traveler’s budget, these vacation specialists can prepare an itinerary which helps keep the entire family or group entertained.
The local area has developed from a rural backwater and plantation area to one ofAmerica’s premier vacation and seaside vacation resort areas. A lot of this has to do with the fact that there are so many golf resorts. Through a combination of location, climate, top notch golf course designs, and built out resort and vacation infrastructure,Myrtle Beachis one ofAmerica’s leading vacation spots. Focus is on the family to provide relaxation and a great place for golfers of all levels to enjoy some great courses.

Myrtle Beach may be a popular destination for those who like this city’s beautiful beaches, but did you know that Myrtle Beach has great golf courses for golf holidays? Your best bet is to contact the all-inclusive vacation planners at www.coastalgolfaway.com.
All Inclusive Golf Packages
There are golf packages in Myrtle Beach that are all-inclusive and this is usually the case when you decide to stay at a resort that has a golf course attached to it. The Mystical Golf and Stay package is a great example…check it out at www.coastalgolfaway.com.

Golf is a game of individualism, the fact that you have only yourself to blame for your actions and the fact that you play one stroke at a time. Not only are you up against the field and the golf course but you also have your inner demons to deal with.
Although the result is determined by the amount of strokes you take the game is played one shot at a time – one hole at a time. The time that it takes to play a hole allows us to become captivated by the magic of a single shot or a single hole, regardless of how incredible the rest of the experience has been.
The aforementioned thought leads us to World Tour Golf Links, the folks behind the design of this fabulous golf course understand this better than most. While every other course in the world is about carving its own niche and showcasing its own identity, World Tour features some of the most famous holes on the planet.
When it comes to golfing, there are only than a handful of courses and holes that are forever captivating – and World Tour Golf Links has that ability.
Twenty seven unique holes have been designed in the tradition of classic courses such as Cypress Point, Augusta National and St. Andrews, featuring gently rolling terrain and undulating, well bunkered greens. Guests can enjoy a pleasant ride along lush fairways and gorgeous water features.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to play “Amen Corner” at Augusta National or “The Road Hole” at St. Andrew’s but never had the money or time to do it, just book a round at World Tour Golf Links courses and you can scratch that off of your bucket list “to do”.
As a golfer, you’ve probably dreamed about hitting the same shots as your favorite tour player – or at least having the chance to – and World Tour gives you that opportunity.
If you’re looking to play World Tour Golf Links and would like us to put a golf package together for you, simply call 800-368-0045 or visit Coastal Golfaway’s website. We’ll put you in a comfy condo that’s in close proximity to the golf course, fabulous restaurants and great nightlife.

On a recent trip to Myrtle Beach, I traveled a little further south and played Caledonia and True Blue; these are definitely two of the best at the beach! Here is a quick snapshot of the two golf courses and the great golf experience that I believe they have to offer.
Caledonia Golf and Fish Club
Caledonia is one of the Grand Strand’s most prestigious layouts and is ranked among the best golf courses in America. One only needs to drive down the entranceway to realize this; a canopy of centuries old live oaks warmly welcomes you to this special corner of golf course heaven. Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek all include Caledonia on their respective Top 100 lists, and the Pawleys Island layout is very worthy of the praise that it receives for its spectacular beauty and challenging layout.
As you navigate the golf course, you will find yourself repeatedly saying, “Wow, this is such a great hole and this place is so special.” The late Mike Strantz’s genius use of the natural terrain among the soaring live oaks, lakes and waste areas is absolutely breathtaking. Built on what was once an old rice plantation, Caledonia is always in immaculate condition and is one of the Grand Strand’s most sought after courses to play.
Due to land constraints, Caledonia is not a traditional layout but don’t let this fool you. Playing to a par-70, there are three par threes on the front nine, while the back nine sports only one par five. This adds to the challenge of the golf course as some of the par fours are pretty stout and also require careful placement of your tee shot. There is water that comes into play on ten of the eighteen holes and the waste areas are sometimes penal as well.
Although the golf course is full of unforgettable holes and views, the eighteenth hole will certainly get your attention; measuring 362 yards from the white tee box, this par four requires some critical thinking. Hit your tee shot down the left side of the fairway so as to avoid the hazard on the right; driver is not the play, as accuracy is far more important than distance. This will leave you with a mid-iron approach that is all carry over water to a green that is protected by bunkers front, left and right. The green features slight undulations, pay careful attention to your speed so as not to three putt.
One of their goals at Caledonia is insure that each guest remembers their outing as a complete golf experience. The 6,526 yard, par-70 beauty has been accurately described by some as having “18 signature holes,” There are holes routed around majestic live oaks, along meandering streams and beside gorgeous lakes that are home to a wide-variety of our feathered friends. Folks, Caledonia is without question, one of the best golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area and should be on everyone’s list to play. A last word of advice, make sure to stop at True Blue to hit range balls (included in your greens fee), Caledonia has a good “short game” warm up area but no driving range.
True Blue Plantation
True Blue Golf Plantation in Pawleys Island is located a short drive up the road from Caledonia and offers a perfect combination of natural beauty and man-made craftsmanship. Built on a former rice and indigo plantation and designed by the late Mike Strantz, the course was created to harmonize with its natural terrain. Strantz used the unique low country landscape of twisted live oaks and towering pines, tidal creeks and salt marshes as the setting for this one-of-a-kind work of art. Golf Digest named True Blue the “No. 1 Public Course in the Myrtle Beach Area,” and put it on its list of “America’s Top 100 Public Courses.” Players of all skill levels return often to enjoy the golf and fine southern hospitality that True Blue has to offer.
Featuring five different sets of tees that stretch the length of the golf course from 4,900 to 7,100 yards. True Blue allows its guests the option to play the course longer or shorter. If you play the tees relative to your handicap then you’ll definitely enjoy this golf course. Every hole is set up to challenge you, but none are overwhelming and they are all so picturesque. True Blue is one of those courses you simply must play.
True Blue has a lot of good golf holes and starts out with a lengthy par five (499 yards – white tee’s) that is pretty demanding. You will need to hit your tee shot down the right side of the fairway to open up your approach into the green. The green is long and narrow and is also slightly elevated. A word of caution, the green is completely surrounded by a creek and a deep waste bunker. In order to make an easy par or a chance at birdie, I suggest a lay up second and then a wedge (of some sort) into this green.
This well manicured layout features wide fairways and remarkable elevations. The rolling terrain and native vegetation of this once thriving indigo and rice plantation makes True Blue one of the most spectacular settings in golf. True Blue also features a nice practice facility with a driving range, chipping area and a practice putting green. Guests can look forward to a fully stocked pro shop and a wonderful restaurant.
As mentioned earlier, these are two really good golf courses and I would not hesitate to play them again. The condition of both layouts was exceptional, the staff were friendly and very accommodating. Although a little further south of Myrtle Beach, these two golf courses are really worth the drive. When planning your next golf trip, ask one of our golf directors to quote Caledonia and True Blue as you may want to consider booking them.

One of the most popular vacations in the US is a golf getaway with your closest friends and family. Golf is a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages as well as all skill levels. Taking a couple of days off to go and spend some time on the links along the Grand Strand is an experience like none other – especially when you choose to leverage the kind of golf vacation packages that are offered by Coastal Golfaway. With real connections built up over 25 years of being in the business, you’ll not only be assured of getting into some of the most exclusive resorts on the planet, but you’ll also be able to lock in the kind of prices that won’t break the bank. Even so, here are some tips on making sure you choose the right golf vacation package for your specific needs.
There are two critical key components to selecting the best golf vacation package, but the first thing you need to look at is the depth of services you are able to take advantage of when you move forward with one.
While you can find some incredible deals on golfing all over the web, the fact of the matter is that these offers almost always have a string attached of some kind. Only Coastal Golfaway offers you the promise to not only lock you in for the lowest prices for a round of golf available, but to also make sure you have the accommodations and extras to make this trip memorable and worthwhile. It would be impossible for you to spend all of your time on the courses – try as hard as you might – and knowing that you are staying in a world class resort without having to spend too much will make that sad reality much easier.
Not all golf vacation packages are created the same, but you should choose the golf package that offers you the most value for your money and not just go for the one with the cheaper prices – you may have to spend a little bit more to get into a world class golf resort, but the experience will be well worth it.
Another critical component to looking into the right golf vacation packages – while you will almost always be able to find a bargain basement deal on golf and accommodations in Myrtle Beach, it may end up hurting you, you have to consider the value. Sure, you could play on some no name course for a couple of bucks less and stay in a run of the mill chain hotel, or you could pay a bit extra and have the time of your life while playing on world renowned courses. The choice is simply yours, please visit our website or give us a call at 800-368-0045, we’ll be glad to help you with your golf package needs.

Played the Grande Dunes Resort Course a little while back, this in my opinion, is hands down one of the finest layouts in Myrtle Beach. Listening to golfer’s chatting in the clubhouse, I heard it mentioned on several occasions that they could play this course everyday and not get bored with it; such is the genius of this design.

From the minute one tees it up on the nice square and level tee box on hole number one, you get the feeling that this golf course is going to be something special. Beautiful wide-open Bermuda grass fairways provide lies that anyone would love to hit off, the golf ball literally “sits up” and is so inviting to hit. The rough that borders the fairways is penalizing, but that’s what it’s for, to punish errant tee shots.
Grande Dunes closed in the beginning of summer to install new Champions Bermuda grass greens and re-opened on August 21. These new greens are absolutely fabulous. Armed with subtle undulations, they roll fast and true but are very receptive to approach shots from the fairway. The beauty of this new strain of Bermuda is, that as it matures the greens will get better and better they will be more consistent year round.
The Resort course is challenging but very fair, each hole presents a different test even for the most accomplished golfer. The views along the waterway holes are simply breathtaking and provide one with a tranquil and soothing effect. Grande Dunes offers a complete golf experience on the Grand Strand and I highly recommend this golf course to anyone who truly loves the game.
Among the additional features at Grand Dunes are five sets of tees, a pretty open layout and many strategically placed water hazards. Their practice facility includes; a huge driving range, a nice size putting green, and a large chipping green complete with undulations. The golf shop is well stocked and their inventory features something for everyone.
Folks, we urge you to contact one of our golf specialists at 800-368-0045 or visit us online at www.coastalgolfaway.com with any questions that you have about golf in Myrtle Beach. Please remember we have been doing this since 1986 and nothing gives us more pleasure than to help you create great golf memories.

A Myrtle Beach golf trip is the best way to take a quick break without having to travel too far. Grand Strand golf is well known throughout the U.S. as a great time for all. You have your choice of resorts that are chock full of activities and you can bring the entire family with you. There is something for everyone!
What to pack for Myrtle Beach golf? Packing for Myrtle Beach is easy! This casual city does not require dressy attire. Dinners and shows at night can be attended wearing a pair of khakis and a collared shirt. Many of the golf resorts have a dress code for the course but it is typical of what you will find everywhere.
How Long Will You Stay?
What you pack depends on how long you will stay and what time of year you will visit. The summers are hot and typically stay hot throughout the night, while the winter, fall and spring usually require some warmer clothing for the evening hours.
You will need certain staples regardless how long your trip will be:
Depending on how many days you will be staying, you want to have enough shorts/slacks and shirts to go with them. Myrtle Beach is your typical seaside town, so you can pack casual clothing and feel comfortable no matter where you go.
You want to feel relaxed when you visit and be able to take in the sights and sounds between your rounds of golf, so comfy shoes and clothing are a good idea.
In the cooler months, you may want to bring a light sweater or some cold weather clothing with you because the days will be warm most of the year but the nights can get a little nippy. Keep in mind that you will be near the ocean and you can expect a cool ocean breeze in the evenings.
You may also want to consider bringing some wet weather clothing in the spring months as you may encounter a shower or two during this season.
Pack Light
Most resorts have a laundry facility so even if you plan on staying a while you may want to bring minimal clothing and take advantage of their facilities. Everything about a golf trip to Myrtle Beach is stress free! And to make it even less of a hassle, you may want to contact one of the golf director’s at www.coastalgolfaway.com for some advice on where to stay and where to play!!
Oh! And don’t forget your golf clubs.

Can you imagine sitting in Santa’s lap and whispering in his ear, “I want to be a better putter”? Well, I figure if the elves are busy building the toys, Santa will have time to help improve my game so that is exactly what I did. That twinkle in his eye told me that I will get my wish, too.
So, when Christmas morning came, I sneaked down to the Christmas tree and looked for a letter from Santa. I hoped and hoped that I would find something from him. At first, when I didn’t find anything I thought to myself, “Well, maybe he was too busy this year. But, I KNOW… I saw a twinkle in his eye!” So, I continued my search.
Finally, I gave up and put on a pot of coffee and waited for everyone else to wake up. The mor
ning went along as usual. My wife was pleased with her bracelet and necklace set. The kids screamed with delight over their newest tablets. But, I just sat there, grumbling and feeling miserable. Then one of my my kids yelled out, “Hey, what’s this”? “Oh, it’s just for Dad.” Even my wife was surprised that there was a gift waiting for me.
I opened the envelope and was excited to see a gift of 5 tips on how to be a better putter. It was hand written in gold ink and signed, “From a fellow Golfer,Santa.” So, here goes, I thought I would share the tips I got from Santa:
1. Learn to grip the putter with your palms instead of the fingers. This will help align your arms and improve your stroke.
2. Once you learn a good grip and stroke, stick with it. Improve what you already know instead of changing it every time a new-fangled technique pops up.
3. Plan your stroke for the distance and speed of the green instead of aiming for the hole. The cup won’t move, so think about how far the cup is and figure out the lay of the green to time your stroke.
4. Instead of spending hours on the driving range hitting for distance, spend more time with your putter on the practice green. Putt to the same cup but move the ball to different angles and distances so you can work on getting a feel for the stroke for shorter and longer distances.
5. And finally, learn patience. You will improve with time as you develop good habits. It takes time to become a better putter. Next year, I will bring you lessons on how to drive the ball farther. (WINK)

For a limited time there is a “new special” you can play. Tee it up at Tidewater, TPC Myrtle Beach and World Tour from $60 per round per course. This offer won’t last forever so make sure you strike while your iron is hot!! Following is a quick snapshot of each course.
Tidewater has been dubbed the “Pebble Beach of the East” and deservedly so. This Ken Tomlinson design sits nicely nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach. Tidewater Golf Club is world famous for both its breathtaking beauty and challenging playability.
The golf course sits high atop a peninsula overlooking a gorgeous saltwater marsh and an inlet that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Intracoastal Waterway flanks several holes to the north and west and provides a beautiful backdrop with a wonderful calming effect.
Natural contours of the land create remarkable elevation changes that are not often seen in seaside golf and these same grassy mounds provide a nice variety of lies. Tidewater’s Tifeagle greens are new, hold well and roll very true. Folks, I can personally attest that there is not a bad hole on this golf course.
TPC Myrtle Beach presents golfers with the opportunity to see and feel what it is like to be inside the ropes of a tour caliber golf course. The course was designed by world renowned architect Tom Fazio, and has been a host of the Senior Tour Championship.
The TPC Myrtle Beach is a unique experience that lets you test your game on the same course where some of golf’s legends have played. Guests can look forward to groomed fairways and new, manicured Mini Verde greens. Enjoy beautiful scenery as you navigate tall whispering pines and large wetlands.
After your round relax in their luxurious clubhouse and reflect on your experience of being treated like a pro. The TPC Myrtle Beach was recently awarded 5 stars by Golf Digest; in fact it is the only golf course on the Grand Strand to receive such an honor.
World Tour Golf Links in Myrtle Beach features twenty seven holes inspired by golf’s best, such as Augusta National, Pine Valley and St. Andrews. Imagine testing your golf skills on holes like; Augusta National’s ‘Amen Corner’ or the 18th hole at St. Andrews with its nostalgic “stone bridge”.
World Tour is a living museum of great moments in golf history that allows one to follow in the footsteps of touring pros and its all on one beautiful layout. Take a trip around “planet golf” and play 27 of the world’s most famous layouts without ever leaving the Grand Strand.
Golfers of all skill levels can relive their greatest golf memories as they take on twenty seven of golf’s legendary holes. The Open and Championship nines have just replaced their greens with Mini Verde while the International nine still has Bentgrass greens. This golf course is always in superb condition.
Folks this special will not last forever. So, don’t just sit there, take action today!! Please call 800-368-0045 or visit www.coastalgolfaway.com for all the details about this fabulous offer.

With a passionate and worldwide fan base that just can’t seem to get enough news about the “goings on” of their favorite players, there has been a bit of a media storm as of late about Rory McIlroy playing Nike clubs in 2013. Most people outside of the golf community wouldn’t pay much attention to someone shifting from one equipment manufacturer to another. But, when you’re talking about something as essential as the “tools of the trade” in the golf world – and especially when a superstar of the sport is making the change – well, tongues will begin to wag!
While much has been made about Rory McIlroy playing Nike and switching from his tried and true Titleist equipment, Rory himself doesn’t see it as that big of a shift
Understanding that much has been made about his move into a new set of golf clubs, Rory has taken it upon himself to explain to his fans and the golf world why the change. At just 23 years old, the globe’s number one golfer is always going to be under a bit of a spotlight, and when you add in the fact that he and Nike just inked an almost $500 million dollar deal to shift to the sports titan, things can get a little bit out of hand quickly.
Some in the golf world have called him out on this, questioning why someone like Rory McIlroy would choose to move away from the equipment that brought him so much success and to the number one ranking in the world, but according to Rory there’s not that much of a difference. Understanding that there is great transparency in the golf world and that many of the top of the line golf club manufacturers are using the same technologies and manufacturers as everyone else, he just doesn’t see it as that big of a deal.
On top of that, the fact that there isn’t much difference in the top clubs, we’re still talking about one of the most talented players on the planet – Rory McIlroy playing Nike shouldn’t make that much of a difference
The new Rory McIlroy Nike clubs will not be terribly different from his old Titleist equipment, and it’s not as if he’s going to go into this upcoming season unprepared. Though he’s gotten quite used to his old clubs, he’s had time with the new Rory McIlroy Nike clubs and looks forward to breaking them in with a couple of wins in the upcoming years. If we are fortunate, maybe Rory will make a quick visit to South Carolina for some Myrtle Beach Golf!

To hit a golf ball longer and straighter you will need to work on the action of your club and your stance as you address the ball. Your body should have a consistent language when it speaks to the ball. The slightest mishit can cause you to lose serious distance off of the tee. The shorter you are off the tee, the more club you need to hit the green in regulation on your approach shot.
First, you need to work on striking the ball with accuracy. If you really want to get that ball to travel down the fairway straighter and farther, you will have to take the time to go a driving range and work on your swing. Catching the ball on the heel or the toe could cost you some major distance. Hitting the ball square is most important, not the speed at which you hit the ball. You have heard it many times before….”The woods are full of guys who hit the ball far”. Focus on making a smooth transition from your back swing all the way to your follow through. You should be able to whistle during your swing and hear the same pitch from back swing, at contact, and into your follow through. Another method we have heard over the years is “Tick-Tock like a grandfather clock”. Stand above the ball and as you start your swing say the word “Tic” to yourself. As you hit the ball, say the word “Tock”. On your follow through, say the words “like a grandfather clock”. The key is not to think about the words you are saying, but to create a rhythm that will keep you at the same tempo throughout your swing.
Many golfers are looking to lower their scores and to be more competitive within their group each weekend. Although hitting longer and straighter drives may turn a few heads in your foursome, it is not the easiest way to shave strokes off of your score. The short game is where you can pick up some serious ground, but for this post, we want to help you hit it a bit farther from the tee box.
Here is a lesson for your next trip to the driving range. Buy about 50 balls when you get to the driving range, and set up ten to get started. Instead of hitting the ball over and over again with no plan in mind, imagine that you are teeing off on each hole of your favorite course, or one you can recall from memory. Stand behind the ball, pick your target, and take a nice rhythmic swing. To start, take a shorter backswing and notice how far the ball actually travels when you hit it on the sweet spot. Over swinging gets you off of your plane and causes many of your hooks, slices, and other issues. Start with a three quarter swing, and focus on your target. You will be amazed at what happens.
Once you loosen up, try these little tips to hit longer and straighter drives.
Now you can work on your body’s mechanics since you have figured out how to make better contact with the ball. How you hold your stance will affect not just the impact on the ball with your club, it will affect the flight of the ball as well.
Remember that you want to work on consistency with the sweet spot and maintaining a solid stance. Swinging for power will not get the ball far or straight; it will just get the ball lost in the rough. Speed is your friend, not strength. Concentrate on consistency to get what you really want; a long straight ball toward the green. And don’t forget, pick out a target on the fairway and hit the ball to that target. Hope this helps!
We offer this free bit of advice so the next time you visit the beautiful courses along the Myrtle Beach Coast, you are able to take a few extra dollars from your opponents. When you do, make sure you tell them you learned it all when you were booking your last golf trip to Myrtle Beach!

Among golfers there is an old adage that says that golfers should “Drive for show, putt for dough.” Golfers have done their best to live up to that, too.
Golfers try to drive the ball as hard and as far as they can down the fairway to get as close to the putting green as they can. The longer the ball off of the tee, the more lofted club a golfer will need when making his approach shot to the green. Think about your game…would you rather be hitting a wedge into the green or a 5 iron? Which do you feel more comfortable with?
Over the years it has become something of a competition to see who can hit the ball the farthest. Some go for the straightest shot they can make; others prefer to play a draw to add overspin to the ball and add some distance. Occasionally on tour you will see a player hook their tee shot intentionally to escape trees or other obstacles in their way. The hook will add a tremendous amount of distance if the ball lands on the fairway. Other golfers on tour play the power fade which cuts a bit of the distance off of the tee shot, but for most of the guys on tour, that small loss of distance isn’t a big deal. The type of shot each player uses is pretty much a matter of style.
Still others simply have such a smooth, strong swing that they can’t help but have very long drives. The average drive was once about 270 yards, but that is becoming an old hallmark. A little background will help explain why.
The best weather condition for long drives is hot dry weather when the ball can get a lot of lift, so most long drives will happen in the hot summer months. During the cooler months, the damper weather tends to shorten the hang time of the golf ball. Warm weather isn’t just nicer weather; it also helps the game.
Many of today’s professionals golfers are in much better physical condition than their predecessors. They tend to drive the ball pretty far, so that is actually creating longer average shots of about 315 yards. Also, as golf clubs and golf ball technology improves, the trajectory of the golf ball also improves and distance will increase significantly.
Here is a short list of longest drives in PGA Events:
3. Bubba Watson is considered to be the most consistent long driver at an average of 313 yards per drive in the PGA.
2. The longest modern drive was by Davis Love III for 476 yards at the 2004 Mercedes Championships. The Mercedes is played in January every year and is the kickoff event for the PGA played on the Plantation course at Kapalua in Maui. Love hit his monster drive on the 18th hole, a dogleg left, down hill, down wind on the 663 yard Par 5. Stuart Appleby won the tournament in 2004, so I guess that goes to show, a long drive doesn’t mean everything.
1. The longest PGA tour drive, going back to the 70s, was by Mike Austin who was 64 at the time. He drove the ball 515 yards. Mike hit the shot at Winterwood Golf Course in Las Vegas, and the amazing thing for those golfers who have played a while…..he did it with a Balata ball!
Many of today’s young golfers are training more in the gym and using scientific technology to improve the power in their drives, so eventually even these stellar records will fall. For now, Mike Austin is still the man to beat on tour. We would like to see some of the big hitters play the long par 5 at Kapalua with the wind at their back. Who knows how far Tiger or Rory could hit it under the perfect conditions.

As fall begins to become cooler and cooler and sometimes shows a snowflake or two, golfers start to feel sad that they have to wait until spring to get back out onto the lush, green golf courses once again. But, that doesn’t have to be the case. Now is the time to book your winter golf vacation at Myrtle Beach, SC.
The snow may be blowing outside your window at the office and at your home in the Northern states, but the wind is still blowing warmer air along Myrtle Beach’s golf courses. You don’t have to wait, huddled up in your warm and cozy house, watching Golf on TV when you can plan a respite from the snow at the golf courses at Myrtle Beach.
Early November is a great time to schedule your winter golf vacation because everyone else is starting to think just like you. You should get your golf vacation set up as soon as possible to assure you get the best golf package, tee times, and accommodations.
The most coveted tee time in the winter is 10 am. The later your tee time, the less likely you will get time to play a full round. The reason for this is that frost on the grass will need to be burned off by the sun before play can begin. If there is frost, tee times may be pushed back. Sunlight hours are shorter in the winter, of course, so that means the later the tee time the further back it will be pushed. If your time gets into dusk, you’re out of luck.
The good news is that winter temperatures in Myrtle Beach tend to stay in the 60s during the months of Dec-February, with brief cold and warm spells that can swing temperatures during the day to the 40s to the 70s. So the grass does tend to stay healthy, though the rough, taller grasses may turn brown.
Golf Packages are available to allow a golfer to enjoy several courses. Most of the packages include lunch and beer. Some packages will include hotel accommodations, breakfast and replays. While most packages are preset, you can still build your own package that may work better for you.
If you are in the winter doldrums, knowing that soon you will be shoveling snow, why not get in a golf vacation that will help make the long winter just a little more tolerable and maybe even just a little bit shorter.

Did you know that people oftentimes prefer visiting Myrtle Beach SC in the fall, as opposed to the summer or spring because of the abundance of activities outside of golf ? Although commonly referred to as, “The Golf Capital of the world,” Myrtle Beach has a lot more to offer than just great golf courses. While you may scratch your heads at this notion, don’t be so quick to write it off as total nonsense.
This glorious coastal town may not harken back to those glorious times when the horizon takes the autumnal hues that signal the winter wind’s familiar bite is back and tanned faces fade to rosy cheek. It does however, proudly offer warm sandy beaches, seemingly endless miles of gorgeous greens to tee off on and beautiful evenings that beckon you outside. Of course, Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit any time of the year, but fall is one of the most popular times to visit around here. I (shamefully) admit, when it comes to planning a vacation, I typically plan around where and when I can play the most golf. Yes its true, I am one of those obsessive golfers whose idea of a perfect, relaxing trip is hitting the links as often as possible. One thing I always check out prior to scheduling a tee time is: check the various ratings of the course, both by professionals and by the folks who have played there before.
Rating golf courses can be done based on various factors such as proximity to vacations sites, professional rankings of courses difficulty or ease, popularity, or even the quality of golf weather. You can even rate a golf course on how well courses are groomed and how easy they are to get around either on foot or in a golf cart. In this article, I’ve provided you with the Top 10 US Golf destinations based on professional tournament popularity.
Why is it important to know a prospective course’s rating? The reasoning for this is simple. Avid golfers would rather compete on a competitive, yet playable course. Some courses are laid out better than others.
Certain courses are played more than others: some for their particular beauty, others because of the extreme challenges they provide, while others are popular because of the famous developers who created them, like the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia built by Bobby Jones.
1. Pebble Beach: This storied course is located so close to the ocean that the cliffs alone create a dangerous water hazard. Pebble beach has been used in PGA tournaments for more than 80 years. A public course means fans of the game can play the course they’ve watched their idols play.
2. Augusta National Golf Club: Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts in 1933, this revered Georgia course is ensconced by beauty and charm that can only be found in the South.
3. Torrey Pines: It is at this now famous course that Tiger Woods competed despite a terrible knee injury. The breath taking views and challenging holes only added spice to the tension that year. This course is known for its pleasant temperatures, perfect for a round of golf virtually any day of the year.
4. Pinehurst: This course is famous for its rough and ready terrain that adds difficulty and challenges to the game. The location is perfect for golf due to the comfortable year-round tropical weather. It’s widely considered one of the best courses in the Carolinas. That’s quite an honor when considering how many famous courses are found North and South Carolina.
5. Hilton Head Golf Resort: Even the name of this South Carolina course is famous to people who have only a cursory understanding of golf. The Heritage Golf tournament is played at the Harbor Town Golf Links. Players compete for the famed tartan plaid jacket.
6. Myrtle Beach: Hosts PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship and is often referred to as “The Mother of All Golf Tournaments.” Amateur players get this one big stage to play and feel like the pros. They play for a $500k purse and the title of World Champion of Amateur Golf. Not too shabby a payday for an amateur.
7. Tournament Players Course: This course is one of the two used in Dallas, Texas to host the Byron Nelson Championship, which the first PGA tournament named for a player. The course is lush and green and just perfect for a round of golf in the spring.
8. TPC at Summerlin: Formerly known as The Las Vegas Invitational, this championship course, designed by Bobby Weed, is member of the Tournament Players Club Network operated by the PGA. It also the venue for the tour’s charitable Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
9. Bay Hill Golf Club & Lodge: Previously known as the Bay Hill Invitational, it hosts the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It was here, earlier in 2012, that Tiger Woods finally climbed out of his slump and won a tournament after his much publicized divorce scandal two years ago.
10. Medinah Country Club: Located in Illinois, this historically-rich course has hosted 13 Professional Golf Tournaments, including five majors. Most recently, it was host to the 2012 Ryder’s Cup, where the American team enjoyed a tremendous lead, only to fall apart and eventually lose to Europe.
I hope this list of the top 10 US golf courses for you to play is informative and inspires you to check out one or all of the courses listed above.
